The search bar at the top of ShopView has been rebuilt: it forgives typos, finds purchase orders and vendor invoices, and remembers the records you opened recently. We also fixed a set of issues shops reported to us.
š Find anything from one search
Now you can also find purchase orders and vendor invoices. They sit next to work orders, customers, assets, parts, vendors and part sales, each with its own tab.
āSearch looks inside records, not just at their names. Each result says what it matched on, for example VIN: NUUK7YDE or Line item: Brake.
Work orders: number, customer, unit, VIN, year, make and model, lead technician, service advisor, and the parts and labor on its lines. Before: number and customer only.
Customers: name, phone, address, website, and their contacts' names, phone numbers and emails.
Assets: VIN, unit, license plate, year, make, model and owner.
Parts: part number, description, tags, category, manufacturer, vendor and bin location. Before: name and part number only.
Vendors: name, phone, email, address, and now their contacts too.
Part sales: number, customer, asset, VIN and who created it.
Purchase orders (new): PO number, vendor, the parts on it and who ordered it.
Vendor invoices (new): invoice number, PO number and vendor.
Search opens in its own window, with room for real results.
Click the search bar or press āK (Ctrl+K on Windows). Search now opens in a window in the middle of the screen instead of a small dropdown under the bar. Press āK again or Esc to close it.
Each group shows up to 5 results instead of 3. Show all switches to that type's tab, and the tabs across the top carry a count for each type.
Rows carry more to act on: status on work orders, part sales and purchase orders, the unit on a work order, a customer's open work order count, and the stock level on a part.
Typos and missing dashes no longer mean "No results".
fibrdge comercial finds Fibridge Commercial. A ā next to the highlighted text marks a close match rather than an exact one.
A work order number matches with or without its dash: s233465 finds S2-33465.
Typo tolerance applies to names and descriptions. Numbers, VINs, phone numbers and emails have to be typed as they are, but part of one is enough: the last 8 of a VIN finds the work orders, asset and part sales for that vehicle.
The records you opened recently are waiting when you open search.
With nothing typed, search lists the work orders, customers and other records the user opened recently, under Today, Yesterday, Past week and Past 30 days. A customer you just created shows up there too.
The list belongs to the user, not the browser, so it is the same on every computer they sign in on. Records drop off after 30 days, and Clear all empties it.
The last search stays in the bar while you move around ShopView, and reopening search brings back the same results. Reloading the page clears it.
Keyboard first. Arrow keys move through results, Enter opens one, and ā+Enter (Ctrl+Enter) opens it in a new browser tab.
On a phone, search opens full screen, with a Cancel button next to the search field.
Everyone gets the new search on release, with nothing to switch on. Users only see results for records their role can already open: a technician without parts access sees no parts, purchase orders and vendor invoices need vendor order management access, and totals are hidden for anyone who can't see pricing.
š Worth knowing
"Recent searches" lists records, not words. It shows the work orders, customers and parts a user opened, not the terms they typed.
Parts results now come from inventory at the location you're signed into, not the shop-wide catalog. Clicking a part opens the Inventory list filtered to that part number, rather than the part itself.
Search follows your location. Work orders, parts, part sales, purchase orders and vendor invoices come from the current location. Customers, assets and vendors come from the whole shop.
Search no longer matches on status. The old search matched Approved against work order status. Now Approved only finds records that contain the word, such as a line described as approved. The status still shows as a badge on each row, and the Work Orders list filters by status.
At most 20 results per type, with no load more. If a record isn't there, add a word, a number or part of a VIN to narrow the search.
The search boxes on the Work Orders, Parts and Customers lists haven't changed. They still match exact text, so the same word can return different results there than in the top search.
If search can't reach the server, it says Search unavailable with a Retry button.
Additional improvements
Users can now @tag themselves in work order and line notes, and get the notification, so a note can be a reminder. The note field now says You can @tag a team member.
Edit Fee / Discount: the New work-order subtotal preview no longer subtracts an existing discount a second time. Saved totals were always correct.
Settings > Pricing > Fixed Rules: search now finds every rule, not only the ones already loaded, and the tab shows the true total. Picking a category in the Fixed Rule window no longer clears a part you already chose.
Purchase orders: a line linked to an existing part shows that part's description as read only, so a second product can no longer quietly take over an existing part number. To order something different, use Add new special order part.
QuickBooks: merging a duplicate vendor in QuickBooks no longer leaves the export stuck on a duplicate name error, and the Unexported Items messages explain the problem more clearly.
The Work Order Log opens wider and wraps long entries, so it no longer needs horizontal scrolling.
We have also made a range of smaller improvements and fixes across the platform.
