Publishing & Domains

Get your website live on the internet with free hosting, and optionally connect your own custom domain.

First Publish

Click the Publish button (top-right corner of the editor) to start the publishing process. A wizard walks you through two steps:

Domain

You can enter your own custom domain (e.g., mybusiness.com) or click Skip for now — I'll use the free URL to publish without one. You can always add a custom domain later.

To use a custom domain, you must already own it through a domain registrar like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Cloudflare.

Deployment

Your website is deployed automatically. This usually takes about 30 seconds. Once complete, you’ll receive a free URL like yourshop.netlify.app that anyone can use to visit your site.

Custom Domains

Adding a Domain

Enter your domain name (e.g., mybusiness.com) during the publish flow or anytime after by clicking the Publish button and choosing to add a domain. Root domains like mybusiness.com work best for your main website.

DNS Setup

After adding your domain, you’ll need to update your DNS records at your domain registrar. ShopView shows you exactly which records to add:

For a root domain (e.g., mybusiness.com):

  • A Record — Host: @, Value: 75.2.60.5

  • CNAME Record — Host: www, Value: mybusiness.com

Step-by-step instructions are provided for 8 popular registrars:

  • GoDaddy

  • Namecheap

  • Cloudflare

  • Google Domains

  • Squarespace Domains

  • Network Solutions

  • Bluehost

  • HostGator

Select your registrar from the dropdown to see instructions written specifically for that provider.

Important: Delete any existing A or CNAME records for the same host before adding the new ones. You cannot have a CNAME and an A record for the same host.

Verifying Your Domain

After updating your DNS records, click I've Updated My DNS to check if the changes have taken effect.

  • DNS changes typically take 5–30 minutes to propagate

  • In some cases, it can take up to 48 hours

  • You can click the check button as many times as you need — ShopView also checks automatically in the background

  • Use a tool like whatsmydns.net to check propagation status

SSL / HTTPS

Once your DNS is verified, an SSL certificate is provisioned automatically — no action required from you. This usually takes 1–2 minutes. After SSL is active, your website will be served securely over HTTPS.

Removing a Domain

Click Remove Domain in the domain settings to disconnect your custom domain. Your website will still be accessible via the free Netlify URL.

Republishing

After your initial publish, any time you want to push changes live:

  1. Click the Publish button (or the Live button if already published)

  2. Click Republish

The update typically takes about 30 seconds. Your custom domain and free URL both update automatically.

Unpublishing

To take your website offline:

  1. Click the dropdown arrow next to the Publish/Live button

  2. Select Unpublish Site

  3. Confirm in the dialog

Unpublishing removes your site from the internet and disconnects your custom domain. Your content is preserved in the editor — nothing is deleted. You can republish anytime, but you may receive a different Netlify URL.

Note: You cannot unpublish while a deployment is in progress.

Live Indicator

The Publish button in the toolbar changes to show your website’s current status:

  • Publish — Your site has never been published, or you have unpublished changes

  • Live (green) — Your website is published and up to date

  • Resume — A previous deployment needs attention (e.g., DNS setup incomplete)

Hosting

Hosting is completely free and included with ShopView. Your website is served from a fast global CDN (content delivery network) for quick load times worldwide.
