WHO IT IS FOR Customer Portal admins using ShopPay | WHAT IT DOES Accept card-present payments from invoice pages | CURRENT SCOPE Single invoices, batch invoices, live readers, and test mode |
Important
Live payments require a physical Stripe Terminal reader. Simulated readers and Simulate Card Tap are only available when the shop's Stripe account is in test mode.
What ShopPay Terminals does
• Accepts in-person card payments at physical shop locations.
• Lets admins pay one invoice or multiple invoices without leaving the invoice workflow.
• Keeps terminal payments alongside online payments in the same payment history.
• Provides a test mode so teams can try the full flow before going live.
Before you start
• ShopPay must be enabled. The feature only works for shops with an active ShopPay setup.
• Your Stripe account must be connected. Terminal payments run through Stripe Terminal.
• Card payments must be enabled. ACH-only shops cannot use terminal payments.
• You need admin access to the Customer Portal. Only admins can see and use POS features in the current release.
• Your location must have a valid address. At launch, terminal payments can be enabled only for workplaces with a valid address in a supported country, currently the US or Canada.
Set up a terminal reader
Use the Point of Sale page in ShopPay to register and manage readers by location.
1. In the Customer Portal, go to ShopPay -> Point of Sale.
2. Choose the workplace or location you want to manage.
3. Power on the Stripe Terminal reader and wait for the pairing code to appear on the device.
4. Click Register Reader, enter the pairing code, choose the location, and optionally add a label such as Front Counter.
5. Finish setup and confirm the reader appears in the registered readers list.
Good to know
If the selected location has not been set up for terminal payments yet, ShopPay creates the terminal location automatically the first time a reader is connected.

Use test mode before you go live
• When your connected Stripe account is in test mode, the Point of Sale page shows a Test Mode banner.
• You can use Auto Simulate to discover and connect a simulated reader.
• During checkout, a Simulate Card Tap button appears so you can complete a test payment without physical hardware.
• Simulated readers always succeed and do not behave exactly like live readers.
Take a payment for multiple invoices
1. Open the Invoices page.
2. Filter the list to a single customer. This is required for batch terminal payments.
3. Filter by location so the Pay at Terminal option becomes available.
4. Select two or more invoices.
5. Click Pay at Terminal in the action bar.
6. Review the invoice breakdown, convenience fee (if enabled), and total amount.
7. Choose a reader and click Send to Terminal.
8. Ask the customer to tap, insert, or swipe their card on the reader.
9. After a successful payment, the invoice list shows a processing banner and then updates the invoices to Paid.
Take a payment for one invoice
1. Open the invoice you want to collect.
2. Click Pay at Terminal instead of online checkout.
3. Review the payment summary.
4. Choose a reader and click Send to Terminal.
5. Ask the customer to present their card.
6. After success, the page refreshes and shows the updated payment status.

Pay at the Terminal — Straight from ShopView
You no longer need to leave ShopView to collect a terminal payment. A new "Send to Terminal" button now appears right in the payment modal — on Work Orders, Unpaid Invoices, and Part Sales.
Click it, and ShopView opens the Customer Portal in a new tab with the right invoice already loaded and the terminal payment started. If you only have one reader, the payment goes to it automatically. Multiple readers? You'll pick which one.
What else you should know:
Works with multiple invoices — select several unpaid invoices, hit Send to Terminal, and collect one payment for the batch.
Credits are handled first — if you apply credits in the payment modal, only the remaining balance goes to the terminal.
The button only shows up when your location has an active terminal reader.
Payments recorded at the terminal sync back to ShopView — nothing extra to do on your end.
Fees, notifications, and payment history
• Terminal payments use the same card fee structure as online card payments.
• If your shop uses convenience fees, the customer sees that fee in the payment summary before card presentment.
• If late fees are enabled, they are included in the total and shown in the breakdown.
• Terminal payments appear in the existing Payments report and payment history as Terminal (POS).
• If an invoice has more than one contact, the admin selects who the payment is for; that contact receives the Stripe payment notification email.
If a payment is canceled or fails
• During the Waiting for card step, you can click Cancel to stop the payment.
• If a card is declined, the reader disconnects, or the request times out, ShopPay shows an error message and lets you try again.
• Failed or canceled payment attempts are cleaned up automatically, so a duplicate charge is not created.
