Filters and Page Search

Filters now live in the page toolbar and are always visible, every list has its own search box, and your filter selections follow you between devices.

Overview

As of the 26.35.0 release, filters have moved out of a row of their own and into the page's existing toolbar, alongside the tabs. They are always visible: no collapsing, no hunting. Each chip shows what you have selected, and each one clears on its own. Alongside the chips, every list now has its own search box that narrows the list as you type.

There are now two search boxes: the global search in the top navigation bar takes you to a record, and each list's own search box narrows that list. See Two search bars, two jobs below.

Filters

Each filter is a chip in the toolbar. Click a chip to open its panel and pick your values. When a filter is active, the chip shows what you have selected, and each chip clears on its own.

Filters on the Work Orders page

  1. Work Orders now has a tighter, more useful filter set: Status, Assigned to me, and Asset on Site.

  2. The old "by status" dropdown has been replaced by an All view with the Status filter in the toolbar.

  3. My Work Orders is a filter now rather than a tab, so you can combine your own queue with any tab instead of choosing between them. Use the Assigned to me chip.

Every other page (Parts views, Reports, Customers, Administration) keeps exactly the filters it has today, restyled and relocated to the same place in the toolbar.

Your filters follow you

Filter selections are saved to your account. They survive logging out and turn up on your other devices. Your search terms and filters also persist when you drill into a record and come back, so you do not have to retype or reapply them. Reports and Parts views each keep their own filter and search selections, so nothing carries between views that do not share columns.

Sharing a filtered view

A filtered view can be shared or bookmarked as a link. Opening someone else's link never overwrites your own saved filters: a banner appears while you are viewing theirs, with Back to my view to return to your own.

Two search bars, two jobs

As of 26.35.0 there are two separate search boxes, and they do different things. Using the wrong one is the most common reason a search appears not to work.

Global search — the box in the top navigation bar
This takes you to a record. Type a name or number, click a result, and ShopView opens that record, wherever it lives in the app. It does not narrow the list you are currently looking at. Global search now opens in a window in the middle of the screen (click the bar or press Cmd+K, Ctrl+K on Windows), forgives typos in names and descriptions, finds purchase orders and vendor invoices, and lists the records you opened recently when nothing is typed. See the article Global Search: Find Anything from One Search for the full details. One exception on parts: clicking a part result opens the Inventory list filtered to that part number, rather than the part itself.

Page search — the box on the page itself
This narrows the list in front of you. Type and the list filters as you go, showing only matching rows. Every list has one, and it works on every tab of that page.

Example — Work Orders

  • Type a customer name in the global search (top bar) and click the result, and ShopView takes you to that customer's record. You leave the Work Orders list.

  • Type the same customer name in the page search (on the Work Orders page), and the Work Orders list narrows to that customer's work orders. You stay right where you are.

The same applies everywhere. In Parts → Inventory or Catalog, use the search box on that page to find a part within your own list. Global search will take you to a record instead of narrowing the page you are on. You can search for part number, description, or tag within the Parts → Inventory section to narrow down the inventory list effectively.

Rule of thumb: going somewhere, use global search. Narrowing what is in front of you, use page search. This change applies across the whole application. One difference worth knowing: global search forgives typos, while a page search box matches exact text, so the same word can return different results in the two boxes.

Page search

Every list now has its own search box. Type and the list narrows as you go. Search stacks with your filters, so you can search inside an already filtered view, and the two clear independently. Unlike filters, a search query is momentary: it lasts for the browser session and is never saved to your account. In the Parts → Inventory section, you can search by part number, description, or tag to refine the displayed inventory list. Previously, the search behavior auto-populated suggestions as you typed, but this has been replaced by the in-page search for more precise filtering.

On mobile

On a phone, the toolbar stacks, the chips get their own swipeable row, and each filter opens as a sheet: pick your values, then tap Apply filters.

FAQ

I searched for a part number in Inventory but only got catalog results. Is search broken?
No. That is the global search in the top navigation bar, which takes you to a record rather than narrowing the page. Part results in global search now come from inventory at the location you are signed into, not the shop wide catalog, and clicking one opens the Inventory list filtered to that part number. To narrow your inventory list directly, use the search box on the Inventory page itself and type the part number, description, or tag.

Why doesn't the top search bar filter my list anymore?
As of 26.35.0 the top navigation search does one job: taking you to a record. Narrowing a list is now handled by that list's own search box, which appears on every list page and works on every tab.

Do my filters affect what other people see?
No. Filter selections are saved to your own account.

I opened a coworker's link and my filters look different. Did I lose them?
No. A shared link never overwrites your saved filters. Click Back to my view on the banner to return to your own.

How do I narrow Work Orders by customer? Use the page search box: type the customer name and the list narrows as you go. The Work Orders filter chips are Status, Assigned to me, and Asset on Site. Why doesn’t the Parts → Inventory list update when I search? Ensure you are using the "Type to search" field within the Parts → Inventory page. The list will filter in place based on your input.
